Tesla (T)
Quantity: Magnetic flux density · Category: Derived SI
The tesla is the SI unit of magnetic flux density (magnetic field strength). One tesla is one weber of magnetic flux per square metre — a very strong field.
Relation to SI
1 T = 1 Wb/m² = 1 N/(A·m) = 1 kg/(A·s²)
Examples
- Earth's magnetic field is about 50 microtesla.
- A fridge magnet is around 5 millitesla.
- Hospital MRI scanners use 1.5–3 tesla fields.
