Coulomb (C)
Quantity: Electric charge · Category: Derived SI
The coulomb is the SI unit of electric charge: the charge carried by a current of one ampere flowing for one second. It is named after Charles-Augustin de Coulomb, who quantified the force between charges.
Relation to SI
1 C = 1 A·s
Examples
- A single electron carries about 1.6×10⁻¹⁹ coulombs.
- A lightning bolt transfers roughly 15 coulombs of charge.
