Signal Processing
Definition
The art of cleaning and reading signals — from sharpening phone photos to pulling exoplanet dips out of starlight.
Technical definition
Filtering, sampling, and transform techniques applied to measured signals, governed by Nyquist sampling and Fourier methods.
Example
Your phone's portrait mode uses signal processing to separate you from the background and blur it convincingly.
Common confusion
Signal processing cannot recover detail that was never recorded. Upscaling a blurry photo is educated guessing — it does not retrieve lost information.
