CT Scan
Definition
A 3D X-ray — hundreds of X-ray snapshots from all angles, computed into cross-sectional slices of your body.
Technical definition
Computed Tomography: X-ray projections are reconstructed (filtered back-projection) into voxel densities measured in Hounsfield units.
Example
A head CT after an injury shows bleeding as bright regions — blood is denser than brain tissue to X-rays.
Common confusion
A CT delivers far more radiation than a single X-ray — tens to hundreds of times more. Doctors weigh that dose against the diagnostic need.
