Speed and Velocity Calculator

Speed is one of the first quantities you meet in physics: how much distance is covered per unit of time. Enter any two of speed, distance, and time, and this calculator solves for the third — converting units automatically and showing every step.

Speed and Velocity Calculator

v=dtv = \frac{d}{t}

How to interpret the result

The result is the average speed over the whole trip: total distance divided by total time. It does not tell you the direction of motion — for that you need velocity, a vector.

Assumptions

  • Distance is measured along the actual path traveled
  • Time is the total elapsed time
  • This gives average speed; instantaneous speed can differ
