Acceleration Calculator

Acceleration measures how quickly velocity changes. Given any three of acceleration, initial velocity, final velocity, and time, this calculator finds the fourth using the definition a = (v − u) / t.

Acceleration Calculator

a=v−uta = \frac{v - u}{t}

How to interpret the result

Positive acceleration means velocity is increasing in the chosen positive direction; negative acceleration means it is decreasing (or increasing in the negative direction). The magnitude tells you how many m/s of velocity are gained or lost each second.

Assumptions

  • Acceleration is constant over the time interval
  • Motion is along a straight line
  • Direction is handled by the sign: positive means speeding up in the chosen positive direction
